New and Improved One Tree Art Club Free Library

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

This blog has an extensive collection of free watercolor and drawing tutorials. Fifty-eight of them have free outline drawings and other resources. The outlines have proven to be an invaluable resource for many watercolor enthusiasts. To give you the best possible experience, we have now upgraded and improved the library.

How to use the free library

You need to be a subscriber to my newsletter to access the free library. Once you have logged in, you will see all the drawings displayed. Click the download button, and the PDF will download to your device. It’s that simple.

If you are new to the blog, you may wonder where to find each corresponding watercolor tutorial. Go to the SEARCH function on the menu bar of this website. Search with the name of the image in the library. The blog post with the matching tutorial will be listed.

How to use the outline drawing for your watercolor painting

Print the PDF, and use one of three methods to trace and transfer the outline to your watercolor paper. You can, of course, transfer it to any kind of paper.

After 58 free outline drawings, it was time to create a paid membership option. It is hosted on the Buy Me a Coffee platform. For the last two tutorials, the outlines are available to paid members only. It will be the case for future tutorials as well.

The membership fee is $5 per month, and you get 2-3 outline drawings monthly. If you want to become a member, remember to click the Membership tab. The one-off option to buy-me-a-coffee option is for supporting this blog only. The membership option is called One Tree art Club | Creative.

The story behind the name One Tree Art Club

A long time ago, we lived in New Zealand. Our home was in Auckland near a famous landmark called One Tree Hill and we frequently walked in the adjoining park. On top of that hill, there used to be just one tree. It was a Pohutukawa. After the second world war, an obelisk in honor of Maori soldiers was erected.

The red tree illustration inside the One Tree Art Club logo is a Pohutukawa. The only place it grows is in New Zealand, and it is sacred to the Maori people. To experience its glowing beauty, you have to travel there.

My illustrator career started with that tree. It took off with a book & wisdom cards called “Wisdom of the Four Winds” by Barry Brailsford. The topic was endemic species to NZ and their symbolism, applied to shamanic wisdom cards. The illustrations are similar to those I make for my tutorials. “Wisdom of the Four Winds” has gone through many reprints and has become a classic in NZ.
